From the family of Stephen Elliott, longtime resident of White Rapids Manor:

"Stephen entered White Rapids at a younger age than many of the residents. He had a dementia that at the stage of his admission manifested itself by constant activity and walking, so the staff was very aware that his care would present some challenges, but they were willing to do their best to provide care for him.    As his health deteriorated over the almost eleven years White Rapids was his home, the dedication and respectful care he was given never wavered.  He was treated with kindness and staff in all disciplines interacted with him, sometimes able to draw him out and get a smile when he lost his speech.  Our family is certain that he lived as long as he did because of the wonderful care he received.   During the last week of Stephen’s life, he and our family were surrounded by care, compassion and excellent care.  We cannot express enough how very much we appreciate all that was done for him and for us not only at that time but during all the years he was a resident.  We are so thankful for White Rapids and the  excellent and dedicated staff."

From the Family of Pearl Smith:

“I would like to say thanks again to you and all the staff from White Rapids for making mom’s stay with you comfortable for her and our family.    I tell everyone that White Rapids is a ‘true home’ filled with caring staff.

Being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s was my mother’s worst fear. There was not one item but many incidents that happened that made the family realize that mom would soon need to be placed in a Nursing Home.

Dad was still in denial and felt that he could still keep mom at home but his health was failing quickly. Immediately after placement, I was able to stop worrying about my mom’s safety.  For me, it was guilt that I couldn’t do more to enable mom to stay home. For Dad, it was the anger that their life had changed and he felt that he had broken his promise to keep mom with him for life.

Mom’s first few weeks at White Rapids were rocky for everyone, mom, the family and the staff. The staff told us to call anytime day or night to see how she was doing. Being able to call whenever we were worried made the transition a bit easier.

Even though mom didn’t know me, I could visit her and enjoy her company.  Every now and then she had a lucid moment and called me by name. The joy of being able to walk with her, hug her and go to Church with her was a gift.’’
